The short answer is no, you can't download them and bring them directly into scal.

There are, however, work arounds. As Todd says, the older carts had instruction booklets that had the designs in them as svgs and you can pull them out per his instructions. But Provocraft found out that it was possible for people to do that and stopped making the instructions books that way, so the 2 carts you are interested in CAN'T be done that way.

You can bring the carts into the trial version of design studio, open the design you like, save it as a bitmap and use it as a template to outline or draw on top of. There are a number of threads describing the process, if you do a search.

Todd, there probably is not vector images in the cartridges' handbook as those are new carts.

but way around is to Download a trial version of cricut design studio, then do a screen capture of the image you want, then trace in inkscape or right in SCAL....

Pretty stupid question, but how do you do a screen capture?

if you have Windows Vista there is an application called snipping tool.... I found mine under the accessories folder (like where the calculator, notepad and paint are located) and it works great.

or this method:
Here's How:
Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard. It may be labeled [PrtScn].
Open an image editing program, such as Microsoft Paint.
Go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.
If prompted to enlarge the image, choose Yes.
Optional: Use your image editor's crop tool to crop out unnecessary portions of the screen shot.
Go to the File Menu and choose Save As.
Navigate to the folder where you want to save the image.

Provo craft has handbooks out for their new carts. You could always download them, print out what you want and hand trace it and then scan it. The images are traceable but fuzzy.
