Large Vinyl cuts for walls

Post by talanhart »

Here is a thought for piecing really large vinyl cuts for walls, etc. The artwork in this picture is 21" wide and 35" tall. Obviously it will have to be cut in two pieces. Once it's cut, how do you get the two pieces aligned correctly? Add two squares to the artwork. Make the top cut with the squares which will be at the bottom and make the bottom cut with the squares at the top. Level the top cut with the squares and adhere to the wall. Place the second set of squares right on top of the first and your cut is perfectly aligned. Remove the squares from the wall.

Simply Brilliant!

EDIT*
Ya know, I just have to come back here and let you know again how wonderful you are!

I am in the middle of doing a wall art of text for a co-worker since at Christmas time I "raffled" my time and talent of cutting vinyl to my co-workers...

(the money went to several local children's hospitals)

but the quote I am doing is going to be about 5' long (6" high, max ht) and the guy who won this is about 80 years old..... and I am not sure how old his wife is....

And these match squares are just brilliant! and will allow them to just line up the pieces!

I am so freakin' excited! (oh the little things in life make me the happiest... yeah, I know I am crazy!)

I know how you feel. I am excited about it too. My nephew just opened up his living and dining room into one great room and now they have these huge freshly painted walls that I just want to cover in vinyl. It would look so cool.

Not only is that an awesome idea, but it's an awesome quote and font. Any idea what that font is? I'd love to make a plaque for some friends who are getting married.

Todd, are you gonna use removeable vinyl or the regular kind. Oracle 631 is the removeable i believe.

And actually Todd if you use the method on the video about layering colors to put it together, once you get the two pieces lined up, you can remove the bottom squares from the transfer paper itself. The square on the top paper should be sandwiched between the top layer and the next layer of transfer paper. So no squares have to go on the wall at all.

Or take the easy way out and cut the squares out before you hit the wall. :)
