how do you break up a LARGE image?
how do you break up a LARGE image?
I want to make a growth chart for my daughter - have been wanting to for a long time but haven't been able to find an image for the background... wanted a tree or branches or something and finally found something today. have been working on the image in inkscape and it's almost done. BUT it's one BIG tree... i need it to be about 4 feet tall when cut out.... how do I 'break up' the tree into manageable pieces? after all my cricut can't handle pieces that big.... i have a 12x12 and a 12x24 mat I can use if necessary but of course when you cut it's slightly less then that,,,, any ideas?
Re: how do you break up a LARGE image?
Here is a tree that was 60" tall. Here are the pieces broken up to fit the 11.5" x 23.5" cutting area of the 24" mat. I did this in Illustrator using Object>Path>Divide Objects. My cutting object was a rectangle 11.5" wide by 23.5" long. Next I would cut and copy each piece into a new file and save as an SVG. I would also write down the dimensions of each piece and make sure they were correct when I import the file into SCAL. Cut and piece together.

I'm just learning to use Illustrator and this is awesome!!! I've been wanting to do a big tree in my foyer and thought I might end up having to paint it on if I couldn't figure out how to do it using my Cricut and SCAL. Thanks SO much for sharing this Todd.
