Doodlebugs, the answer is maybe, depending on what versions are available on the ProvoCraft site.

You might consider contacting CraftEdge (the makers of SCAL2) to get the information about what version of the Cricut firmware will work. It does not seem to still be available on their site.

I have no idea if you can find a version of the firmware that would still be compatible with your machine.

Good luck I hope it all works out for the best.

I know from experience, if you are using Windows 7, it will do that quite a lot.. I just make sure that I save OFTEN.

My version of firmware on my cricut is 2.34 my version it says on SCAl is 2.34 but the version of SCAl is 2.043 which I think is the latest version SCAL2 users were able to have so I just do not want to update the cricut an lose SCAL2

I have the same firmware as you and the same version of Scal 2 is what I use and DS. I updated the fonts in DS and it did not cause any problem for scal. I don't seem to need any further firmware update for the E to make things work.

Sometimes Scal will shut down when I try to do things that I should not with the software. Like for instance...if I am trying to group too large an intricate image all at once. So then it will say the program has to shut down. So what I do is group it in sections and then group those sections into the one section...and then it will work.

When I had my old computer which died because it was all messed up, everything would freeze and shut down and then the whole computer shut down...it was a Vista 32 bit. I now have Windows7 64 bit and have never had any major problems...thankfully.

Some say that if you run in XP mode or as Administrator that that can help. Security software can also interfere. Not having your computer up to date or having it bogged down by unnecessary temporary files which you could run a disk clean up to increase your computer's performance. You could have a virus in your computer. You could be low on memory or ram. Maybe your unit needs a tune up. It could be any number of things. But I don't think that you need to update firmware. Best wishes for everything to work well for you.
