Does anybody know what is wrong

Post by bex777 »

Hi
I have a very special wedding project to do but I'm having trouble with my Cricut. Every time I cut a square, some or all of the corners cut rounded or the cut lines don't match up. The same thing happens with fine lines and borders- they usually cut uneven. I have uploaded pictures of the monogram I am trying to cut. I need to cut it from vinyl but did a trial in lightweight card first. The first picture is the corner of the square that doesn't line up. The second is the monogram in full. This shows the lines and frame have cut uneven. The third picture was my second attempt. I stretched it to the full width of my mat (a bit too much as it didn't cut the outer frame! ) The lines and the top left flourish didn't cut well. I only have the Cricut Create machine as I have lots of other manual die cutters so my fiance wouldn't let me have the expression  I don't know if that is the reason why the cuts are so bad as I can only do 6" cuts, but surely all the lines would be uneven not just a few. As for the corners not cutting or being rounded, I've had this problem nearly every time I've used it. Do you think it could be the settings I use as I'm not really sure what they should be. I'm really worried that I won't be able to finish my project. I really wish I could get a bigger machine but there is no way I can, I've only had this machine a few months! Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

Rebecca

Sorry the pictures are bad! Only had my iphone with me!

The original svg or scal file will be much more helpful if you could post it. I see some of the problems but I'm just guessing without the original file.

Send it along and someone will figure it out for you, I promise

Hi
Thanks so much for your reply. I'm not sure if I am allowed to post the svg as I bought it from my vinyl designer

Post this same info to them and see if they can help you, perhaps. I am sure they would try.
Also, it is important to stretch a file proportionally, by checking the Keep Proportion box in the Properties Panel. If you stretch more one way than the other...it might distort.
Also, use a sharp blade...and with a sharp blade keep all settings in the middle. I don't know your machines settings.
The speed is in the Edit, Preferences, Cutter, Speed, and do this at a medium in SCAL. It will take some time but will be worth it maybe.

Best wishes...hope you get the project done...I am sure it will be really lovely.

did you accidently "simplifiy" the svg file. Simplify will make my designs look like this, if I don't tweak the threshold.
