Hi. I just found out about this software & on another forum I read that this could void the warranty on the Cricut machine... How? How would the Provo Craft know if this software had been used w/ the cricut?
Also, has anyone had a problem w/ this software & the Cricut? I'm very interested, but don't want to break my Cricut... Not cheap!
TIA for replies!

Re: Cricut Warranty
It may be possible for Provo to know you've used a 3rd party software with the Cricut because of the firmware. The firmware is loaded into a memory board on the Cricut machine. How would the Provo Craft know if this software had been used w/ the cricut?
Re: Cricut Warranty
.............but the firmware update is from ProvoCraft not from SCAL. SCAL has nothing to do with updating your Cricut.wreed06 wrote:It may be possible for Provo to know you've used a 3rd party software with the Cricut because of the firmware. I thought we had to update the firmware from both Provo and Craft Edge. I thought Craft Edge updated the firmware. I thought I updated the firmware when I initially installed SCAL. Been awhile, so maybe I'm remembering wrong.

Firmware updates and software updates are different.wreed06 wrote:I thought we had to update the firmware from both Provo and Craft Edge. I thought Craft Edge updated the firmware. I thought I updated the firmware when I initially installed SCAL. Been awhile, so maybe I'm remembering wrong.
Firmware updates refer specifically to a hardware product, in this case, the bugs.
Provo Craft issued a ''firmware" update for the baby bug and the big E. Effectively this firmware update 'opened' up the USB port for use by software programs.
Provo Craft has issued one update to their Design Studio Software to add the newly issued cartridges to be recognized within their software program but has not issued any software 'fixes' for the glitches in DSS.
SCAL has updated their software fixing glitches and continuing to add new features to their software.

Re: Cricut Warranty
I was just using my SCAL program with my Cricut and in the middle of a cut my Cricut stopped working. No function, nothing. I'm freaking out right now. I just got the machine in October, just got SCAL in May and just purchased a new cart. Now I have nothing. Can anyone please help me? I seriously feel sick about this right now.
Re: Cricut Warranty
Sorry that happened! To fix it, you probably need to close SCAL and reboot your computer. When the computer comes back up, use the manual unload mat to get the mat out of the Cricut. Then try your cut again. HTH
Re: Cricut Warranty
I had no problems with Provo Craft replacing my defective machine under warranty. They didn't ask about 3rd party software nor did I volunteer the info. Provo Craft just wants to scare everyone away from SCAL so they can be the only ones to make a profit.
Re: Cricut Warranty
Silly for Provo to be worried about profits (if they really are - I think it's mostly rumor). You can't use SCAL without a Cricut and guess who sells Cricuts?! Some people are upgrading the baby bug with the 12x12 Cricut partly because of SCAL and partly because it's really cool - again who profits? Plus some people still like carts even with SCAL. Carts have shapes all in one place and you know it's going to cut well, etc. I wouldn't buy just font carts, but if shapes are things I like, I might buy a shape cart. There's nothing wrong with having the best of both worlds!
