word books?

Post by shedayz »

I see this new phenomenon of word books and I LOVE THEM! But I don't understand how people are using the Cricut to make them. I think I am decidedly slow in this area  Is there a tutorial somewhere? I would just love to do some word books for my adoptive son's biological family (open adoption) because I gave them little 8x8 scrap books last year on his birthday and you would have thought I have them an all expenses paid trip to Hawaii.

So, help a girl out?

Hi there!

There are some SVG files you can download for word books on the SVG board. Maybe if you looked at one you might see how they are made? Do you use Inkscape?

Robyn all I did was d/load a wordbook file. Cut each letter etc the same length, then lined them up how I wanted to see them and chopped off the overhang on the left hand side. Hope that makes sense :) The embellished etc each letter

cropped overhang? for a word book, don't you have to cut each page separate? are you guys using chipboard? I saw a word book at the scrapbook store last night and it was THICK! No way the Cricut could do it that thick...

If you want it like a thick chipboard, you can cut each shape in 4 pieces of cardstock and then stack and glue them as one thicker piece. I have not tried this, but the girls on TwoPeas were raving over how much it came out like chipboard.

I did make two words books (yay me!!) and they are rather thin. Although, I cut a test out today on Bazzill and it's MUCH more sturdy. I would bet that 2 sheets of that glued together would be just fine.

There is a way to do it in SCAL without Inkscape. Take a look at this thread.
