Wordbook help needed

can someone, tell in how to do a WB like the one below The one below is NOT MINE. I borrowed it I hope that is okay? Anyway I know how to do a basic wb where you weld the letter to the rectangle but this one in actually on the rectangle and the side takes the shape of the letter? Does this make sense? TIA

What they did for example is when they did the letter "M" they placed a copy of that M partway over the rectangle and then welded or did path/union.. they did 2 Ms so one was a welded copy and the other was to cut out of their colored paper and they glued it on top
