Try turning off your computer waiting a few minutes and turning it back on again. If you can open the program and then exit the program, do that first.

Mine does the exact same thing! I also have a Mac. Did you ever find a solution? IT's so frustrating!

This has happened to me numerous times. I have both an Expression and a Create. I have found that this happens more often with my create than my Expression, generally when the cut is very intricate. Meaning that if it is an intricate cut, my create and SCAL2 will freeze numerous times before being able to finish the cut. I have found 2 solutions for this:

1. Break the image apart in SCAL2 with the ungroup and breakapart. delete the portions of the image that have cut successfully and then cut again without unloading the mat or moving the image within SCAL. This takes forever, and can be a long and grueling process.
2. Sometimes the images have little bits of cutting places - things you would not notice until you break the image apart, group pieces of it together and move around your mat. When you do this, you will notice these small dots - these are confusing to your Cricut and causes freezing. When I do is import the image into my Inkscape, break it apart find all the little bits delete them and then group the image back together. This takes less time once you get the hang of it and is much less frustrating.

I am not very technical and savy so I realize that this may or may not make sense!
