I had been storing all the hundreds of svgs that I have found on an external hard drive. Well I went to use it the other day and it is fried. Of course I don't have them any where else. So now I have to start all over again.
So just a reminder to everyone, have 2 copies of anything you want to not lose. I also lost a ton of pictures.

Re: so Sad
That happened to me once and I lost 13,000 pics of my kids, friends, events and svgs.......It is so disheartening..........I now burn a dvd every 1st of everymonth and I still have a back up disk. I have a friend who had 2 500 gb backups that she would back up things.....twice.....well, they both fried at the same time as her computer.
My deepest sympathies,

Sorry to hear that......that really does suck. I keep 2 8GB flashdrives and put everything on those. When I download something on to 1 I do it to the other also and they are cheap enough too!

Re: so Sad
very sad news
For those of you keeping 2 copies you should also keep one copy off site - family, work, neighbour etc so if you have a fire or something like that then you still have a copy. Scan your certificates and insurance and passports etc and keep them on that disc as well.

If you call a Computer repair shop, many of them can retrieve the information off of fried Hard Drives. It's not cheap. $75 per drive is about average. I guess it depends on how valuable the pictures are to you.

Re: so Sad
When you say "Fried" What do you mean? Is it the HD or the External Controller...Let me explain..I had/have an external HD that was really flakey..I ended up buying a different case with a different controller on it and pulled the actual HD and plugged it in the new case...and bingo...no more HD issues. If your problem is the Controller and not the HD itself then you may be able to extract the HD and plug it directly into your pc (may take a techie to do it) but you may be able to retrieve the data. There are different tools and different techniques that may be cheaper than trying an total extract off the direct disks.
If you aren't learning something new everyday you might as well just lie in a grave and wait for death.

Everything I purchase - I send a copy of it, and the registration numbers to a gmail account.
Sorry you lost everything - I've had that happen and it's sickening!
