New here and feel really stupid...

Post by hoagie »

Ok, I purchased SCAL, and I know I will love it once I get started. I want to make a word book and can not figure out how to do it at all. I saw the other post and it said something about rectangles and saving each letter, but I am lost. Anyone out there that can help someone just not getting it tonight?
Thanks!!

Ok let me see if I can "talk" you through my version.

Open SCAL
In the Library screen that will open click on the shapes tab and select basic shapes
Now you will see another small screen showing all the basic shapes. Click on the rectangle or square (doesn't really matter) and this will put it on your work mat. Move its location to top of the mat if it isn't there already and then size it to whatever height you want your word book to be. Now for the length of it, stretch it to how ever long you want the work book to be but not quite as we have to allow for a letter yet. While your rectangle is still highlighted with the arrows etc around it click the weld tick box which comes up in the Properties screen that opened.
Now go back to the Library screen and select the Fonts tab. Now the choices start. Which font do you want to use. I suggest for a word book you want a good solid font something like Arial to start with. So select Arial from the list and you will see the screen that had all the shapes on before will now have all the letters in that font showing. You can click on the letter or just type it off your computer keyboard onto your work mat.
So type the last letter of your word book onto the work mat. You need to size it to match the height of your rectangle. Remember to click the weld button on this one too. Then just move your letter to butt up against the rectangle.
If you go to Cutter (at the top of your mat screen) and then preview you will see what will cut. Where the two items have joined they should not show any red line between them as this is the cutting line. If they do then move them closer to each other.

Then just cut.

When you do your next letter you need to just type in the new letter, delete the first letter you did and reduce the length of your rectangle so it is shorter. Always keep the height the same.

How does that work? Hopefully I covered everything for doing a book.

My basic shapes don't show up. Anyone know why this is? I just downloaded the latest version and still no shapes.
Help?

Click on Preferences as the top and then restore defaults and see if that helps.

Click on the shape or the word where the mistake is and press the delete key. If a letter is wrong in a word and you still want the word, click at the end of the word (in the box) and use the backspace key to get to the offending letter. You can't delete a letter in the middle of a word - it's either from the end to the beginning or the whole word.
