SVGs not compatible from macs to PCs?
I have a mac but bought SCAL for the PC because they don't make the newest version for PowerPC macs. When I create svg files on my mac and then bring them over to the PC I get an error message that it failed to open the SVG file. I then have to open the svg in Illustrator on the PC and resave it. Then SCAL is able to import it. Anyone know what the problem is?

Ah, you must have SCAL 2. Wish I could help you, but can't. There is several out there that have a Mac with SCAL and might answer you question.

I am on a MacBook Pro using SCAL2. I create SVGs in Illustrator and share them with others that use them on PCs.
Maybe when you are saving out of Illustrator on the Mac your settings are not correct.
Here is the info:
Namely, ungroup everything, convert everything to paths, all paths have to be closed, no intersecting lines (use pathfinder to unite or whatever), no clipping paths, everything within the boundaries of the art board, etc. Then, when you go to save as SVG, make sure you uncheck the button that says keep editable in Illustrator. That should do it. Keep another copy in AI format for editing purposes.
Hope that helps!

I wonder if my version of Illustrator is too old. I'm still running 10 on a PowerPC mac.
Do you think that matters? Maybe my version of Illustrator doesn't have all the new settings?'
What version are you using aimitup?

That is the same version I am using on a MAC, so that shouldn't be a problem. Sometimes, some of the SVG files I make with Illustrator on my Mac will fail to open with SCAL 2 and others won't. I haven't figured out why. Gremlins!

I must have had preserve illustrator editing capabilities checked. I unchecked it and now it works, thanks aimitup.
