The only point that scares me on this lawsuit that applies to our favorite software is the following:

17. Provo Craft recently learned about the existence of a new company that calls itself
Make the Cut LLC, and its apparent owner, Andrew Heinlein (the Defendants).
18. Defendants are marketing a personal computer-based software product called
MAKE-THE-CUT! which, according to Defendants, provides a computer interface that allows
people to cut virtually any shape they can obtain using a CRICUT® machine without needing to
purchase Provo Craft’s cartridges.
As with CRICUT DESIGNSTUDIO®, people can buy
MAKE-THE-CUT! software and load it into their personal computer either with a CD-ROM disc
or from the internet.
19. Defendants had advertised and sold early versions of this software to permit their
users to make crude copies of virtually any pattern the user could find, including Provo Craft’s
copyrighted CRICUT® patterns. The copies were not easy to make, and they were not easy to
make well, especially if the pattern was complicated.
20. Defendants have been offering services that allow their users to share those crude
copies with each other. For example, Defendants host an electronic “gallery” on the internet

If they win on these points they can extend their grip on other companies doing similar business...
If you aren't learning something new everyday you might as well just lie in a grave and wait for death.

i would like to know why people that are upset they might or will lose mtc have also a wish as a consumer to make it difficult for scal to continue to operate and provide the many people whom like it a hard time cause they have not been picked on yet.

I am saddened for them about mtc but also saddened that they in there anger are also aiming to get scal included in the mess.

As for myself?? I would not worry about any of this.. This has been ongoing with companies for years and years.. have they don't anything?? no... I would not lose sleep over this..Judging by the basic reason they are going after MTC is due to the fact of their cartridges and nothing else.. We as SCAL users don't have the option of downloading cartridges.. MTC is very similar to DS .. SCAL is not...

PC should learn from the home embroidery industry who went through the very same thing a few years ago and almost ruined themselves before making compromises for the betterment of the customers instead of themselves. The embroidery market saw their profits triplicate once allowing and joining in on software to let others design and share/pay for individual designs rather than having to buy the embroidery cards that held maybe 12 designs. The thinking that the issue is the cartridges themselves negates those of us who would have bought other cutters totally if not for the option of software. Their assumption comes from thinking that those of us who research products would have just settled for the cartridge factor. In my case, and many others, that is poor thinking.

My sister purchased The cricut E when it first came out and then had to purchase cartridges to use it. I myself loved the machine but was not willing and couldn't justify such an investment to scrapbook. Had I not found SCAL1 I would have never purchased a cricut at all. I introduced my sister to SCAL1 and she also loved it. She in turn bought her daughter a cricut E. I think PC is selling a lot more Cricut machines, blades, mats, vinyl etc because of SCAL. I don't know that much about MTC because I didn't need to find a NEW program. SCAL1 and then SCAL2 did everything I was interested in or needed and I couldn't be happier. I love this forum and appreciate everyone here. You couldn't find a better group of people. I think we all keep other in check (copyright issues) and that is why this forum continues to grow and attract the most creative people. Todd has never crossed the line and I wouldn't expect him to now just to keep up with a program that chose to do just that. I'm sorry to hear MTC has problems with PC, however they did cross the line that we all know was wrong. Thats my two cents on the matter and hope this doesn't affect us all in the end. Thank you all Carol

Isn't this similar to a situation like computers and being able to watch tv from your computer or download music ??? to listen to??? Something is always going to come along and something else will come along to better the same product.... Like the embroidery situation.. You go in get your own files, design them ad program them into your sewing machine, ..Another example is satellite.. they create these satellite boxes and you download a file and get your tv viewing for free... This is a very similar situation but the only difference being like I said.. MTC went out of their way by using those cartridges which in my book is a very big nono and just asking for trouble...
