Lines

Post by cydnew »

I would love a few lines added to the basic shapes library - both a solid and perforated straight line and semi-circle. This would allow us to make slits and tabs and fold lines wherever we wanted.

For example, placing a dashed line down the center of a basic square = instant card & fold line!
skewing the perforated half circle would allow us to make the fold lines for pillow boxes.
And just a simple line to make slits would be really handy instead of having to add them later, make them in inkscape, or cut a flattened rectangle (which takes much longer if you have a lot of slits).

It already has a way to make dashed lines... Over in the properties box, "line style"... several different dashed lines...

and then, I think if you fiddled with it... the pen tool: draw a line, and then bend it, then change the line style...

I don't know exactly how to do it, but I'm pretty sure it could be done???

(I'm sure one of the other crafties will chime in) :D

I tried this, but it doesn't actually change the line, just how it appears. When you import into SCAL or view in outline mode, they are still solid lines.
I am going to try creating a set of lines and putting them into "Lib it Up" so that I can just add them to any project I want.

If you change the line style in Inkscape, it won't change the cut, but if you change it in SCAL2 it will cut them as dashes. You can also edit your line style and change the dash and gap lengths. The line style change in SCAL2 works on both scut and svg files. HTH

What version are you using? The line style option wasn't added until 2.011.

I downloaded version 2.012 today. I just rebooted to see if that would help and I still don't see the line style option. Does it show up in the Mac version?

You need to have the line or shape selected with the Selection tool, then it is at the bottom of the Appearance window.

Got it Heather......I needed to play with the poperties box and stretch it to make it longer at the bottom to get it to show up. It had been hidden from me. Thank you so much, the attached picture was very helpful.
