I have both SCAL2 and MTC. I really do prefer the SCAL and basically use the MTC to trace since I just cannot seem to figure it out in Scal. What I would love to do that I can do in MTC is to layer my pieces and then fill them in with the color of what they should be cut in. It makes it so much easier to remember especially with some svg files.
Can this be done in SCAl? I really would love to just use just SCAL but there are several tricks in MTC that I like

Re: Can I do this in SCAL2
I have both too and LOVE SCAL... there are so many things SCAL can do that I really appreciate.
You can fill different objects with color in SCAL right now. Under View in the menu bar make sure that View Outlines isn't selected. In the appearance part of the properties box you should see a colored box - click on it to change the color. You have to select the object you want to color - then click on the colored box to change the color.

Oh, Thank you, thank you. I knew SCAL would be able to do it but I just couldn't figure out how!!!!! Yeah.
No another question, if you don't mind. I have 2 objects, a circle with stars set within it. Sometimes I get it where the stars are cut out and sometimes they are behind the circle. I hope that I am making sense. I tried welding but it still does not show the cut out

If you weld an object that is inside another, the inner shape will not cut. Either simply place it where you want it (Object/Group will keep them together if you move them), or you can place it where you want it, select both shapes, then Path/Exlude. I have a tutorial on my blog explaining the Path options here.

Re: Can I do this in SCAL2
Select both in SCAL2 and hit path/exclude if you want the stars cut out of the circle.. If you want the shape of the stars to cut I think they will still cut even if they aren't grouped in...
Re: Can I do this in SCAL2
Thank you ladies. I just have to learn all the little tricks hiding in SCAL, especially tracing, that way I can just stick with one program.
I appreciate it.
I appreciate it.

Make sure when you preview that you don't use preview all. That will show it incorrectly as not cutting the inner shapes. You want to use just the plain preview.
