Changing shadow settings

Does anyone know how to change your shadow settings. With certain fonts when you use the shadow option- certain letters disapear. I was on another site and they said it can be fixed if you change your shadow setting from a 2 to a 3. It that possible with SCAL? There are some great fonts but I don't use them because I can't make a shadow.

I just went to the EDIT PREFERENCES and unchecked the default shadowing, and then you can change a setting in the pop up box down to 2 and it changes the whole look of the shadow...I did not know this either, till just now. THANKS
