glass blocks

I am trying(and I do mean trying) to do some glass blocks. I think(?) I want to print the design on to vellum, then trim the vellum to fit block and use a permant spray to attach the vellum to the block. When I go to word processor to open my design it says design is either to large to print into word processor or its in the wrong format. UGH> Can some one please tell me how they make their blocks. Would it be easier to put plain vellum on block, use my cricut to cut my design out of vinyl then attach the vinyl to the vinyl. I can't believe how confused I am. I appreciate all the help this awesome group gives me. Thanks

I cut my designs out of vinyl. I print the background on vellum. I put the vinyl on the vellum then cut the vellum to fit on the block. I run the whole thing thru the Xyron and glue it onto the block. Some people etch their blocks which would eleminate the need for the vellum. I am going to try that.

i also do blocks but after reading Lindamac's method of vellum, i changed to that form of adhesion. MUCH better than putting the vinyl on the block itself. Let us see what u get accomplished. we all love to look.

I also did like Lindamac, but don't have a xyron...so I used spray adhesive for vellum...but it did not stick good to the block.....tried 3m dbl faced tape which is awesome, but it showed right through the vellum.... I'd love to hear anyone else's ideas too

I don't use vellum anymore, the first two blocks I did last year really bubbled, and it left a terrible image. I use the clear labels in full sheets and put on the glass block, much nicer appearance, no need for glue or tape at all.

Try one and let me know what you think.

I think I'm liking your idea and I may want to try it. Do you print a background, and if so, do you put a finish on it so it won't run? Thanks for any info.

I put the adhesive frosted vinyl on first as a background. (It makes any lights you put in appear diffused.) I then do my design in the coloured vinyl required and put it on top.

Does the frosted adhesive vinyl difuse it enought so the cords don't show on the lights inside? All of my lights have green cords I bought frosted contact paper, but the green still showed threw....

I just followed Maureen's like to Reen's blocks & I think the green cords will still be seen

I use the backlit paper which is a little expensive, from Texas crafters....and the put the vinyl on top or print an image on the back ..throws a gorgeous lite....it looks frosted.....and a spray adhesive doesn't hurt the image on the back that sticks to the glass....also somewhere on this site I did a native American with a sunset printed on the back of the back lit paper..really nice...
