Importing from Illustrator

Post by Kevie192 »

Hi all,

I'm just playing around with the SCAL software before I decide to buy it. I've created a design in Illustrator (nothing fancy, just a welded word) but when I import it into SCAL there's just a blank object - I cannot see my design at all. What am I doing wrong?

Kevin,

Not familiar with Illustrator, but when using Inkscape we have to 'trace' it and save out as a .svg file.

Does this apply to Illustrator?

I'm not really sure. To be honest, the only reason I used illustrator was because I thought inkscape was only a windows program. I've just downloaded Inkscape for the mac so will be using that from now on.

Thanks for the help though,

By the way, you can weld letters in SCAL, you don't need a third party software program.

When you click on 'save as' .svg in Illustrator you have to untick the box which says ' maintain Illustrator effects' ( or something similar as mine is in Italian!) in the menu window that pops up.
The file will then import perfectly to SCAL.
