inkscape version .47 files will not import into scal

I downloaded inkscape version .47 today and now none of the files I create will import into scal. If I open a file that I created in the older version of inkscape and save it. That file will not import. It doesn't even show up now when I click on the import svg file. I am saving the files in inkscape(.svg) format and a "plain (.svg)" format and neither work. Can anyone help me? I am also looking for the inkscape v.46 to download. (I thought I choose the option to not override my older version but it can't be found). If I need to I want the older version back.

One of the new quirks of Inkscape 0.47 is that you need to use Path/Union, Path/Exclusion, or one of the other Path operations in that section in order to create an svg that SCAL will cut correctly. Also, text is grouped automatically when converted to Path, so you need to ungroup that before you can use any of the Path operations on it. Unfortunately most tuts were made before Ink47 was released as a stable program, so they don't include the extra steps. HTH

Yep, too true. Inkscape .47 does not treat rectangles or text the way Ink .46 did.

I have done all of what was suggested. It still will not work. I used the bezier tool to trace a logo and then copied it and put it in a new document. There is no text and no rectangles only the bezier lines and a circle. It will now open something in scal2 but looks nothing close to what I created. I found my old version of inkscape and reloaded that. I will probably just stick with that.

You still need to use Path/Union (or Path/Exclustion, etc). You need to do this with any vectors from Ink47.

I have done the Path/Union and tried the Path/exclusion. I have also done Path/combine. Is that the problem. I really don't understand what I am doing wrong. I am also perplexed as to why the file does not show up as an .svg file. I have to use the show all files in the drop down list when I want to import it into scal2. I did get one image to show up. (Although, I did nothing different.) So I don't know why the others will not work.

Is it possible to open inscape .47 and see if they open then if so copy past them into a new doc and then save. I don't have .47 but you can open your original in .47 you should be able to copy and paste and it then would be a .47. Other then trying this, I'm lost to say why????

Thanks for the link to the older version. I found out that I was using the .45 version. I had loaded the .46 on my laptop. That's why I loaded the newest version on my desktop (little did I know it was .47 and all the time it would consume to work out this problem.) I will now be happy with the status quo and when I have more time perhaps work out the other problem.

I was wondering if any one had an answer to the second part of my problem. When I tried to import the inkscape files they did not even show up as .svg files. Why is that?
