Request--paisley and Santa boot please....

Post by gingerd »

I am new to SCAL and have been playing with Inkscape and haven't had a lot of success. I have also searched the sites that people have recommended to find files. I haven't been able to find any paisley shapes or a Santa boot.

If someone can point me in the direction where I can find these I'd so appreciate it.

Thanks much,
Ginger

House of Lime has two paisley dingbat fonts, but they will need to be simplified to cut. http://www.houseoflime.com/dings.htm

WOW! I haven't seen that site before. Thanks so much--

Now--how do I simplify them? I've played with Inkscape and my "drawings" on the screen look ok, but then when I put them into SCAL they appear as just scribbles. I was drawing with a wide calligraphy tip. I've also try to ungroup shapes. Sometimes I can get it to work, others, well, not so much. I've tried their "break apart" and also their " dynamic offset" too. It's just not working for me--I so know it is me and not the program, but I'm stuck.

Thanks much for the link!

If you just want the shape without any of the inner detail, you can use the fonts in SCAL directly and just use Blackout.

Do you have Inkscape 0.47? There are a couple of different steps to make vectors that SCAL can use. When you convert fonts to Path in Ink47 it automatically groups them, so you need to ungroup before you can use Path/Break apart. Also, you need to use Path/Union at some point in Ink47 to make it so that SCAL imports it right.

I have a basic Ink46 tut on Creating paper piecing svg files using inkscape.

If you want to change the image I have Removing part of a vector image in Inkscape and Joining lines in Inkscape using the node tool.

Thanks so much for all the links Heather. I'm tapped on using this program. Inkscape just blew me away yesterday. I spent forever drawing and then finally was happy with it only to put it into SCAL and it appeared as scribbles.....this has been very frustrating to say the least.

Thanks again I'll check your links/directions,
Ginger

If you are using Ink47 the Path/Union should take care of that. Hang in there, once you know the Ink/SCAL quirks it really opens up what you can cut.

Yes it is Ink 47--so maybe there is a light at the end of this dark hole I am in right now. Now, I wait to find out from tech why I have to re-register and if I should update to 2.003????

Thanks so much--

If you are using SCAL2 then there is a 2.005 version which is the latest... you had to re register SCAL??? you shouldn't have to unless you've already downloaded into 2 computers and they are both windows and you changed programs on a new computer...I saved my serial number in my confirmation email they sent me just in case this happened.....

Yes--I had to have my computer replaced. The one I had when I purchased it, Apple replaced it, then, I had pixel issues with the replacement, and just got my 3rd replacement yesterday. So--I have the email/info but it won't let me activate it because it says I have it on too many computers.

Apple was wonderful--the first computer I had was a 2007 - 24"--because they don't make those anymore they replaced it with a 27" (no charge). I noticed pixel issues the other day and they had me bring it in yesterday and immediately replaced it again--(no charge).

So, now what do I do? I've emailed tech and haven't heard a thing.

Thoughts--suggestions??

TIA,
Ginger

They are usually pretty fast, but with it being Christmas Eve they may not be working until after Christmas. I sent you a PM.
