Yes I have been able to cut. Still having problems opening SCAL files, and doing a trace. A lot of the SCAL files I've downloaded do not show up when opened in our SCAL2 and trace always CRASHES.

I solved my problem with the "gigantic" windows by lowering the view to 50% and resizing everything to my big monitor and then saved via "workspace". That seems to work as well.

I have successfully created a new file, selected all and copied and pasted, welded, etc. Pretty much all the basics.

Still finding the works and don'ts but am pleased with at least having the options.

Keep the faith, we'll get there.

That is a very good question. I think this episode has shown us at the very least that the Mac version wasn't tested very extensively before release. Other software I've used has what's called a "beta program" where a small set of trusted users are given early access to a program to put it through its paces. I can't believe that beta testers would not have caught these issues. These critical problems with very basic functions indicate to me that 2.0 was rushed on the Mac, and make me question CE's quality control and ability to write solid code for the Mac.

Also, the Mac version was released a few months after the Windows version - which has already had several bug fix releases. Unless CE switches over to a cross-platform development tool - one where you write the software once and it runs on both platforms - I don't see any reason to expect this pattern to change. Do you want to constantly be a few months behind?

Personally, I'm going to buy the Mac version because I want to support developers who write Mac software. But I'm probably going to maintain our Windows license as well (we bought it a few months ago when we first got our Expression). I have the Windows version running fine on my iMac using VirtualBox and on a MacBook via Boot Camp. It's kind of silly to use an emulator just for SCAL, but having a copy of Windows around is not terrible. I'm probably going to trust the Windows version more and may let the Mac version lapse in the future unless the quality improves.

I love my Mac and want to support software for it, but if the Mac version is crashy and the Windows version works, I'd rather have software that works.

I hear ya, Jasen, but if you recall, the Windows version didn't seem to have been beta tested either.

I use a MAC for work and I love how it performs. I wanted SCAL, so I bought a PC laptop just to get the PC versions of SCAL, even though I would rather have had a MAC. I didn't want to take any chances with MAC version of SCAL.

I have had some crashes - In fact it continually crashed on cut until I upgraded my Cricut firmware to v2.34. It now cuts like a charm. Still some crashes in design - save early and often, but cutting works great now.

I'm using the free PC emulator VirtualBox on my 17" 1.8Ghz iMac - a four year old machine. It works great with SCAL and DS. It even runs in a "seamless" mode where the Windows start bar is at the bottom of the screen and the apps run on the Mac desktop. Very convenient.

I did a bunch of Cricut work tody with Mac Inkscape on one screen (I have two monitors), and SCAL on the other screen, both reading from the same data directory. Very slick.

I was able to download it and am able to cut certain svg files but some svg's crash on me....don't know what the difference is in the files. The program does not seem to be complete, as I have no shapes in the shapes table, no help in the help menu and preview does not work. Have not tried the trace function yet. Fortunately I can still use the original scal program until they get these issues fixed. Think I will like it a lot when it is all fixed.

Judy, I'd reinstall if I were you and if that doesn't work download again.

As to importing .svg files. I'm having the same problem. I even have it crash on the same file a couple of times before it "takes". Buggy, buggy software.

BUT I was able to get a file done and cut this morning. I posted this this morning.

Keep the faith, it is just a small matter of time. In the meantime look for some SCAL2 tutorials. I'm trying to find some. I'll check out Cleversomeday's Master List of Video's and see what's there.
