So I finally decided on an "easy" xmas card that I can do in just a couple of days. Problem is, I need to cut a snowflake inside a circle, so that the circular part will be the only part that is removed. I cannot figure it out! I've watched a million videos, searched the forum...nothing. When I weld it either cuts both shapes or cuts just the outline of the tips of the flake & the circle. I know its something simple that I'm just not aware of but I'm drawing a blank & figure it's quicker to post here than keep jumping from blog to blog to figure it out.
I'm attaching the svg file
Thanks!
Edit: I found a video that kind of helps on My Crafty Life, using Inkscape, but the problem I'm having is converting the snowflake, which is an svg file to a path. When I select object to path, it says there is no object. ?

Just go to shapes in the scal "library" and click on the circle. Then put your snowflake inside of the circle...don't let the snowflake touch the circle and do not click on weld. That should do it.

Will SCAL do that sort of of combining? I know how to do it in Inkscape and I use it for all my "work" and then use SCAL just to cut.

I've tried in both. Inkscape is what I was referring to in my Edit above.

Try this. I used the "Difference" tool. I drew a circle and aligned it behind the snowflake. Then I modified the shape a bit too to make it more truly "round". Then I selected them both and did a "Difference".
I haven't tried cutting it.

Ah. Beat me by a few minutes. Our two files are slightly different. Mine cuts out only the "negative" of the snowflake. Yours is a rectangle/card with the snowflake cut out of it. Yours can be made like mine by deleting the frame points. I'm guessing mine could be made like yours by drawing a rectangle around it.Sweetness4713 wrote:Is this what you are wanting????

THANK YOU Jasen! Not only for doing it but Especially for walking me through how you did it. The step I was missing was putting the circle behind the snowflake, so every time I hit difference it just gave me the snowflake tips that were outside the circle. Thanks again
