Hi Ruthie. Don't despair. It takes awhile to figure things out. I'm not the greatest teacher nor do I explain things very clearly, so I hope I can help you out a little.

First you need to create a folder that you want to save your svg files in. Once you start accumulating a lot, you might want some sub-folders to be a bit more organized. You need to remember where you put this folder.

When you're in Ink and finished typing your word, you need to select it (arrow on the upper left sidebar). Make sure there is a dashed box around the word or letter(s). Click on Path - Object to Path. Then to save it, click on File - Save As (this is were you name your file and save it in the folder you created). When you open scal, IMPORT the svg.

If all you're doing is typing words, why don't you do it directly in scal? You can save your project and reopen it later. It will be saved as an scut file and again you need to name it and place it in a folder. When in scal, you need to OPEN the scut file.

If this doesn't help, or isn't correct, I'm sure someone else will come along to help. Good luck.

You did a fine job of explaining how to do the text in Ink and get it into SCAL. Also recommending that the text could be typed directly into SCAL was the right thing to do. We get so hung up on having to use Inkscape we forget that now with SCAL2 you don't HAVE to have it for some simple things.

Good job and I'm sure Ruthie will benefit greatly.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Susan. :) I do have to admit however that I am a total Inkscape junkie. :D I hardly ever do anything directly in scal. It is my hope that one day I will be an Inkscape master.
