SCAL FREEZING PROBLEM SOLVED....YAY....

Post by craftydiva »

OK I know I have posted several times about my freezing problem and I tried everything, I deleted a load of fonts, I added an extra gb of ram onto my laptop, I cleared out almost half of my 100gig hard drive, I was determined to make this work. Well today was the last straw, I couldn't get anything to cut, not a single thing. I emailed Todd over at Craft Edge and explained that pretty much as soon as it started cutting my Cricut would kind of shut off for a split second, spit the mat out and leave the 'checking mat' box hanging on the screen, the only way to get rid of it was to cancel. Anyhow, I was typing out the contact form and entered all my details, Vista 32, scal 1&2, etc.... I sent my mail and decided to double check on all my details so I brought up the windows property box thingy with all the details and it said..... wait for it..... SERVICE PACK 1..... OMG I knew in a minute that I was running in xp compatibility which of coure is service pack 2....aaaarrrrgggghhhh, so there I was, straight to the windows update thingy, found service pack 2 and installed it....GUESS WHAT..... worked like a frickin dream...... I am so so pleased, I just can't believe thats all it was, I had a feeling it was going to be an end user kind of problem, just didn't think it was going to be that simple to sort out, so now I'm off to send another contact form through to Todd, tell him I fixed it.....YAY....

I just wanted to post this to get eveyone whos having a problem to check everything, no matter how small, it may just be the problem solver.... mine was.... woooohooooo

Thanks guys
Karen

Are the files you are trying to cut very detailed? I can cut regular files without a problem, but SCAL 2 crashes for me when I try to cut highly detailed files with lots of nodes.

My Sony laptop is newer and has plenty of RAM/ROM memory and processing speed so that isn't the problem. I wonder if the problem is with the memory in the baby bug. Maybe it isn't up to the challenge of cutting a very large scut file.

Deloris, it happens with everything I cut : ( detailed or not : (
I have the espression so I don't think its that.... I have received an email from Craft Edge support telling me to take my firmware back again to 2.1 so when I get to work tomorrow I will give that a try....

Heres hoping

Hi Karen, mine did this too, when I first got my cricut. I wasnt using scal at all, didnt even know what it was then, lol. Have you tried resetting your machine.
I had to do a manual reset on the cricut machine and after that I have had no problems, and that was in March. Here is the post that I found and it sounds really crazy but it worked. Hope this helps

Thanks Tonya, I'll give it a try after I have 'downgraded' my firmware to 2.1
