Few ques.

Post by momof8kids »

I think I am ready to buy SCAL, and I had a few questions. Is the first version still available? I have the smaller Cricut, with no immediate plans to get the larger one, so I don't think I need the version 2 of scal. Also, does anyone know of any coupon codes currently out for the SCAL, or the cheapest website? And, if I do download only, can I make a CD of the software, in case my computer crashes, or I get a new computer? If I can't make a CD, then what happens to SCAL if something happens to my computer?

Thanks for all your help!

Hi Jennie:

I don't know if SCA1 is still available, but just because you have the smaller Cricut is not a good reason to go with the older program. Scal 2 is a better program with more features to offer than Scal 1. Additionally, scut files created in SCAL2 can not be opened in SCAL1. Therefore you would not be able to use any .scut2 freebies. As more people upgrade to SCAL2, more freebie files will be offered that you would not be able to make use of if you only have SCAL1.

SCAL 1 is still on the Download page, so it looks like you can download it and try it out.

It doesn't look like SCAL1 is available for windows from CE, but really why would you want it instead of SCAL2? SCAL2 has so many great new features and improvements. I found SCAL1 still on Amazon, but it was the same price as SCAL2.

Good news for Mac users. Did you see that version 1.017 is available now with support for more firmware versions?

I just downloaded 1 from the Downloads page from Craft Edge. It doesn't surprise me that they are keeping 1 around. If somebody buys 1 and pays full price and then decides they want to upgrade, then they have to pay an Upgrade price or full price for 2.

I wasn't very clear was I? Need more caffeine. Version 1 is still available for download from CE, but not for purchase directly from them unless you buy the Mac version.

Interesting! I wonder why they are keeping the download available?
