A welding challenge

Wow, thanks for the fast reply.

Maybe what I am wanting cant happen.

When all is said and done, and I cut the file, I want a circle, with the butterfly in the middle, with just the tips of its wings welded to the circle so its still attached.

When I opened the file you just made for me in SCAL it would cut a circle, with a butterfly in the middle, but the wings dont touch the edge of the circle.

it can do that. you just need to make the butterfly large enough to touch the sides in inkscape before saving/combining.

I am sure this is really easy.. Maybe I am just too tired and too pregnant to figure it out..

Its still not working.

I made the butterfly bigger and after importing it to SCAL and clicking preview, it shows it would cut the whole circle and then the butterfly, the wings arnt welded to the circle.

I had a problem starting with making a circle. I used your butterfly but I had to remake the circle. When I made the circle, it was more like an arc (not closed) so I had to correct that on the original circle and the duplicate and then I could use Path>Exclusion.

I then had to use Path>Break Apart for the butterfly...don't have any idea what happened with that.

I was able to weld inside a circle using CDS but I had to build the circle out of C's so it wasn't perfectly round.

Inkscape is a much better option once you figure it out.

UGH!! I cant for the life of me figure out what I am doing wrong!!!!!

Here is what I am trying.

I want this butterfly welded inside this circle.

I have done this like 50 times now.. and I keep reading and reading and re-reading the tut and it still wont work.

Can someone please help me?!?!?!?!?!!!

here's what I did:
*open in inkscape
*click on circle: path:break apart
*click on smaller cricle: click delete
*click on butterfly: object: ungroup
*highlight circle & butterfly together: path: combine

it probably wasn't working for you because you had the butterfly "grouped"
anytime you group something in inkscape & try to combine it with other shapes or text, it will not work.

if you open the file I attached, make sure you change the display mode to outline or you won't see the image.

I opened the file in inkscape.
-View<display mode<outline
-select the butterfly Object<ungroup
-Select all path<object to path
-Path<union
then I saved it
