I guess I do more steps than necessary but it works and I am not going to tempt fate LOL LOL LOL. I don't have scal2 so I have to do the work in photoshop. When I turn the image black it always draws perfectly in Inkscape but again the key is to make sure to accept the SECOND size in Inkscape or the image will not cut perfectly. I have a full blown version of Photoshop as I also do photo restoration so the program is very familiar to me. I am happy to be able to have contributed to the sucess of this technique.

Austin,
I'm a photoshop fan, too, and it does work flawlessly but when I do tutorials I try to work to the lowest common denominator. The couple of people who have tried to do this in SCAL alone have not found the blackout to work and have had trouble with the sizing, so it looks like Inkscape is essential. I am working on some steps now for those who don't have the photo editing software/expertise to pre-process the images. Stay tuned and thanks again.

Hi, i think I'm closing in on it.
  • I took an Ink file, sized it,
  • exported to photoshop elements, the size stayed the same. Printed it
  • opened the INK file in SCAL1, sized it,
  • duplicated the image and did a shadow (when you duplicate the sized image it reverted to the size of the import) so sized again mostely my overlaying the shadow over the image.
  • deleted the original
  • used Kay's hinge technique to cut the hole
  • tucked my printed image under and cut
TADA.....well it took 4 tries to get it this far, but I'm stoked. I'll write this up in a clearer form later, but right know I really have to do something else.

Thank you all so much this was a great collective project!

Oh, the hydrangea's were made with Kay's KutUp flower and the spiral technique I worked up yesterday. The tut is on my blog. http://papasuecreative.blogspot.com/200 ... scape.html
