Need More Help-=Adobe Reader

Post by laralee »

I am still having problems most of the time with the files opening getting the same error from Adobe Reader. I have both Inkscape and SCAL open and sometimes (very few) I can get something to open. I just bought 2 new SVG collections and I cant open any of them!!! I never had this trouble before until I started using this new computer. Is there something that may be on this computer that needs to be set differently? This is a Vista but my laptop was too but never had this much trouble opening files. Im not very smart when it comes to computers so any kind of help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

yes I am importing into SCAL and just an empty box opens and inkscape gives me an error they cant open either these are zip files and when I open the file all the separate svg files are there and when I go to import one of them I get an error. I bought 3 svg collection and they wont open including ones I have been trying to open from this site. Some will but very few. I never had this problem when I was using my laptop with vista but the laptop died.

The error says that the file was not properly decoded perhaps because it was sent through email. Any suggestions?

laralee,
this is very confusing. is your question about adobe acrobat reader or adobe svg viewer? Neither program should affect your ability to use svg files in scal or inkscape. Can you tell us exactly the steps you are using in what program and the error message you are getting?

If you are trying to create a pdf file that can opened or imported into Inkscape and have not made it correctly it will say that. I have Adobe 9 and as of yet cannot figure out how to work with images in layers in Adobe. But that is the message I usually get when opening in Inkscape.

This is the deal.....I bought these files from a very good website and so I downloaded the files to a folder to keep on my computer so I know where they are when needed. All are SVG files zipped. so when I open the file there are several svg files that have the adobe sign next to them when I click on one of them to open it will not open and gives me the error. I open Inkscape and SCAL and try to import them into both and all I get is blank screens. something is blocking these files. I have tried to download some from this site also and the same thing happens if I save them to my folder. I have been able to get a few open . Never had this before on the old computer. I should be able to open the files just like I can open any other files I have saved . I know it is confusing and I am not smart at this I just know that there is a problem and cant figure it out. Thanks for all you guys help.

Did you unzip the files before importing into SCAL?
Also, is it possible that somehow the file extensions have been changed? Look at the file names with the extensions visible and see what they say. If you are sure that they are svg files, and they don't end in .svg you can try changing the extension of one and see if it will work. HTH
