Help! Getting Error from Adobe Reader

Post by laralee »

I cant open any files from here and getting error message from Adobe Reader that the file is not a supported file type or file is damaged. Have tried for several days with no luck. Do I need to download another type of Adobe or somthing else so I can use these great files? Thanks!

Open your SCAL program.
If the file is a SCUT, from the SCAL menu use File/Open project
If the file is an SVG, use File/Import svg.

If you are trying to open pdfs of tutorials or something, and get errors, you may need to update your version of acrobat reader. you can get the latest one for your os from adobe.com.

If you are trying to open scut or scal files from this site by double clicking on it, don't think you can, I know I can't. If you are trying to open scut or scal files in adobe, I haven't been able to. But if you are trying convert pdf files into svg's you need to either open or import them in Inkscape. All pdf files are not made alike and may not get it to work. If it is a pdf file that is made correctly it should after opening in Inkscape be a vector and ready to ungroup and use.

Ok I got the file to open in Inkscape finally! Now the next question is the file has 4 pieces I want to break apart and make a separate file for each piece. I got it to break apart and tried to save them but when I open in SCAL all item show up Needing to separate so I can cut each piece with different color paper.

If you are cutting something that all of the pieces will fit on one mat, why not move them around so that you can place a block of paper for each color all on the same mat?

Do you have SCAL1 or SCAL2. If you have SCAL2 you can move each piece to it's own layer (in Inkscape) and then when you import into SCAL2 you can either ungroup the file and move the pieces, or hide the layers and reveal them one at a time to cut. I have a tut on my blog about making layered svg files here and using them in SCAL2 here.
