I need a tutorial

I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of a good tutorial to show me how to convert images to a SCALable file. I remember a good tutorial explaining how to use the cricut pdf files to get the images into inkscape then to save them as a SVG file and finally able to cut them in SCAL.

If anyone understands my rambling and can help I'd appreciate it.
