Cricut Expession and SCAL

Post by nafplayer »

I recently purchased an Expression machine but now my SCAL won't work. I've looked through the board for prior posts re this problem but couldn't find anything on point' well at least nothing that I understood. Will SCAL not work with the Expressions machine? I saw a really old post that mentioned updating the SCAL driver but the post indicate where to get or find the driver.

I'ved loved using SCAL and hate to have to return my new Expressions b/c I can't use it with SCAL. I can still use by Cricut Personal Cutter with SCAL and will probably have to return the Expressions and stick with the Personal Cutter.

Hi
Check what firmware version your Expression is? (comes up when you turn yor Expression on)
Maybe you need a new usb driver and also check you are using the latest version of SCAL :-)
Check on the www.craftedge.com website for the driver and software update.

my expression works just fine!
I have my cartridges updated, and my firmware is the current version on the cricut site. Go into design studio, and the help button will tell you how to update your firmware. Make sure you click on the button for the expression, follow directions. Update your cartridges too. Then go into scal and make sure you are connected to the expression machine, not the regular cricut. (I can't tell you how to do that, I get a nag screen when I am about to cut that gives me a choice)
Make sure your version of cal is the latest one offered. If you uninstall scal, and install th new version, it won't lose your password info.

I did go into Design Stidop and updated my firmware, following the instructions. It wouldn't cut. Each time I attempt to cut, a message window pops up that says update my firmware. I've updated the firmware several times and obtain a message that says the update was successful. Still nothing. And now my Sure Cuts A Lot Program won't work either.

When I contacted Provo Craft on my new purchase they told me I had a fried chip and they shipped out a replacement.

I got the replacement, repeated the firmward update yet again several times. Still kept getting the window that says update was successful until I attempt to cut then I keep getting the window that says to update.

I contacted Provo Craft again, got a lot of shit about SCAL and my warranty being no good b/c of it so now I'm stuck with a piece of JUNK from Provo Craft.

If you can use your SCAL with your one machine, you should be able to use it with your Expression. When you go to cut something, you should get two windows that pop up and ask you questions. If you aren't getting both of these windows, go to Edit>Preferences>Restore defaults and try again. You need to select the Expression in both of these windows.

That's what I thought, too. However, my DS and SCAL programs still work with my Personal Cutter but not with the Expression.

When you go to cut something, you should get two windows that pop up and ask you questions.

After I connect DS to the Expression and attempt to cut the only window popping up is the update the firmware. When I've done that Cricut tells me I've done it successfully; I attempt to cut but the only window popping up over and over and over is the one that tells me to update firmware.

If you aren't getting both of these windows,

The only window I get when I attempt to cut is the window telling me to update firmware.

go to Edit>Preferences>Restore defaults and try again. You need to select the Expression in both of these windows.

At this point I'm afraid to restore defaults b/c right now DS and SCAL and both working with my Personal Cutter and I don't want to loose that capability 'cause then I'd have 2 worthless pieces of JUNK.
