Hello! Does anyone know of a file converter I could use to get Cricut Design Studio .CUT files into the SCAL program?
Thanks!!

Re: .CUT file converter?
I have been trying different things but haven't found a way yet sorry.
Re: .CUT file converter?
Working with machines (Computer Aided) that work almost the same way as our Cricut machines, I know that to convert a .Cut file to a .Scut file involves changing the coding. If somebody has a .Cut file, open it with Wordpad and take a look at it. It should look something like this. If we can figure out the coding, we might be able to convert files. I have done some conversion of program files in a text editor to get programs to work on a specific machine here at work.
When you open the file, it will be very large. What we are looking for is the first 10 lines or so and the last 10 or so lines. The lines in between are just the X and Y coordinates for cutting.

Re: .CUT file converter?
I am not sure if this would work since .cut files call up subroutines for cartridge shapes. As I understand it the shape info is accessed from files in the DS folders, not on the cartridges, so just having the cartridge in when you run a converted .cut file might not work.
Re: .CUT file converter?
That might be, but once the information is saved, all the X and Y coordinates are written into the file. It's the processor information that we are looking for. If anybody wants to e-mail me a .Cut file, it would be interesting to take a look at.

Kay,
If you get a chance, would you try cutting a .Cut file that you have created and saved already using one cart, but have a different cart in the machine. Kind of like our machines have to have a cart in them to work. If it cuts, we will know all the information is saved to the file.

Re: .CUT file converter?
Todd, I'm not sure you are following me. The .cut file is not what gets sent to the Cricut. DS creates machine commands based on the .cut file plus the other files it has at its disposal. I have only used DS a little bit (the trial vesion), but there is one .cut file on my blog that I have cut with Plantin Schoolbook if you want to take a look.

Kay,
I think I get what you are saying. The X and Y coordinates aren't saved in a file, they are generated each time the file is activated and then sent to the machine.

Re: .CUT file converter?
Theoretically If you have DS and have the image on your screen you can do a screen shot (capture) and then you can convert it into an svg file and then to scut.Carrie_Creates wrote:Hello! Does anyone know of a file converter I could use to get Cricut Design Studio .CUT files into the SCAL program?

I don't have DS so I can't test this.
Alternatively you can cut the image out with your Cricut cart or DS, scan or photo it and take it into Inkscape. This I know works since i've taken cuts from the Carts I have and scanned them.
