Cutting Large Letters

Post by DesignedbyFaye »

Trying to make and cut large letters 24 high by 12 wide (or as close as I can get it) I can't figure this out. Thanks

If you have an expression, you can turn your letters sideways and cut them at 23.5x11.5. If you have the baby bug or create, you could make your letters the size you want, then cut them in pieces by making your first cut, then moving the file on your mat, and making as many more pieces as need.

You can get a little more cutting space on the small machines by making your own mat from a flexible cutting mat (from the kitchen section). I did that and it worked fairly well. See this post for how I did that. http://forums.surecutsalot.com/viewtopi ... 22&p=21495 I think if I made a new one, I would simply make a rectange in SCAL in the size I want and cut it to mark the edges of my cutting area and then use the sharpie.

Faye,
Yeah, unfortunately, SCAL doesn't hold a rotation, so it takes extra steps. What I do is type in my widest letter, rotate to 270 degrees and position it so the top of the letters is at the top of the page and see what default size gives you the height you need in that font. By typing the widest letter you make sure you don't run into problems with width. You can use the arrows to narrow the letters if you'd rather not hold the original width. Then cut, then type the next letter. SCAL will unrotate so you have to type 270 in the rotate box each time.

Heather,
I've drawn my whole grid on the do-it yourself mats with the Sharpie loaded into the Cricut so I'd get a truer idea of where it will cut. Finally decided the best idea was to draw the outer rectangle in one color and the grid in another, otherwise it is too confusing.
