something I should know

Post by swirliepants »

I am so sorry to ask this when i knew the answer and know it is out there somewhere ... I lost the use of my SCAL for a couple months after a virus and now I can't remember how to make the "shadow" for a word card. I thought it was to convert the text to path and then combine it and finally select dynamic offset and pull it out to make it wider. But when i do that the dynamic offset doesn't work so am I doing something wrong or is it inkscape?? Thanks for your help!

Dynamic offset does work unless you are using Group instead of Combine. I also find that sometimes it's hard to use if my computer is running a little slow. I usually either use either Outset or I use a wider stroke and then Stroke to path. HTH

Both of the alternate methods Heather mentions will work, but I use Dynamic offset with Combine all the time and it works fine for me. You do have to convert the offset to a path when you are done, though, to prevent problems with the import to SCAL. Maybe that is the step you are missing.
