HELP SCAL NOT WORKING ON EXPRESSION

Ok, for months I have been using SCAL with no problems. Then I decide to upgrade to the Cricut Expression, I loaded the new firmware, and I press the cut button in the SCAL program and it freezes with the popup saying checking mat. I am so frustrated, someone please tell me what is going on. I am running XP. Thank you!

How long has it been since you have used SCAL and your old Cricut?
Have you downloaded any software in the meanatime?
When SCAL asks you what machine you are using, does it default to your old machine or do you have the Expression Checked?

Along the same lines as what Talan is asking, did you pick the new firmware version from the list when you opened SCAL?

I used my personal Cricut today, no problem. I haven't downloaded any software. But in the preferences in SCAl it is saying Cricut Personal. How do I change this to the Expression. I don't see an option to do this and it doesn't ask what machine I am using.

You have to select the Expression in the first window that opens and then the correct firmware in the second window. Just click on the window to get it to open.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I not sure what the window is. When I click on the Sure Cuts Alot icon on my desktop, it opens and shows the cutting mat. I click on Window and there isn't an option to select a version of the cricut. I can create a working website but I can't figure this out. LOL Thank you for your patience.

When you click the Scissors at the top to cut your file is when these two windows open.

I click the scissors and it says cutting with cricut and under that says checkin mat and then it freezes. When I used this with the personal cricut, I never had to select what machine I was using.

You aren't getting the windows, because you probably checked the box that says don't show these windows again. Go to Edit - Preferences - Restore Defaults and try again.
The windows shoup pop up when you hit cut.

Would it make any difference if you changed the mat size (under CUTTER) to 12x12 or 12x24? I'm wondering if it will recognize the expression then as the little bug can't take those sized mats.
