Great layout! That had to be very exciting to be so close. What a great experience. Where were you?
I often go to Estes Park, Colorado in the fall (I live near Denver). The elk (maybe 1500 head) come down to the meadows there for mating. It's fun to watch the bucks herd their females and warn other males to stay away. We've seen some fights, near fights, young bulls practicing, males preparing themselves to attract a female (it's really gross!), females declining a male's advance, mammas nursing, occasionally herds merging, and mostly just eating. The male bugles are incredible - very loud and to warn other males to stay away from their herd. I've been there several different years and am making an album of my elk pictures.

Re: Deer
We live in SouthEastern Washington state. We drove about 2 hours south into Oregon and there is an elk feeding station where they put you on a big wagon and take you right in the middle of the heard while they are feeding. It only happens in the winter to keep them out of the farmers hay. It would be amazing to hear them bugle but at that time of year you can't get near them
I would love to see some of your album posted here when you get it done.
