Double lines when importing svg to scal

Post by LadyBug »

I traced a heart in inkscape and it looks great, or at least I thought. When I went to import it into SCAL I have double lines. I went back into inkscape and couldn't find anything that looked wrong but decided to flood fill my design and sure enough there is a small second line around my image. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of that second line? I am very new to all of this but I am a quick learner :D

I tried going into the nodes but it only shows one line when I do that...thought I could just delete the extra line...thunk wrong!

I have attached pictures, I hope someone can help me understand this.

Thanks!

I took a stab at this and it worked!!! Yahoo! I broke it apart, got rid of the stuff you didn't need and then combined it....Never did that before but I'm excited!!! Now if I can get it to attach to this post I'm on a roll!!!

IT WORKED!!!! You'll have to change the view to outline though...

I figured it out! Thanks for posting what you did, I was able to figure out the steps and now the double lines are gone!

But does anyone know why it did it? Am I going to have to do this with every image I trace? Is there a setting or something that I can change to prevent this?

Thanks Talan but I can't take the credit for it....I copied it from a cartridge :D

Just to see if I could do it.

If you have an image that you trace in Inkscape and it has a thick black outline, Inkscape will trace on both sides of that line and so you get the double lines.
When you are in normal view in Inkscape you don't notice it, but if you go to Outline view you will see if it has the two lines and you can clean it up before taking it over to SCAL to cut.
You will find that it can be a regular thing so don't think it is something you are doing wrong or something wrong with your original image.

An image like this is where the paint bucket really shines. Put the whole png image in view on your screen and then with the paint bucket (default settings) selected, click once inside the part of the image that will be solid when it is cut out. For instance, not inside the center heart, but in between the borders of a part of the lower flourish. Ink will trace the shape with a single outline.
