combining files

Post by Rebecca McConnell »

I d/l this file and the lady who posted it (sorry I don't know whose file it is) put her childs name in the top section of the ball and team name in the middle.
The file, of course, is blank of any names and I would like to put my g-son's info on it. I can't figure how to do this in Inkscape. Could someone please tell me how to do this, please?

You can do it directly in SCAL if you prefer. To do that just import the svg, then type the name where you want it.

You can also do it in Ink. Open the svg in Ink, type the name. With the name selected, Path/Object to path. You can select all (control A) then Combine if you want to make it look like it will cut, but that isn't necessary. Save the file and you should be good to go. :D

Heather, thanks for replying. I tried doing what you suggested in Inkscape and wen I brought the svg into scal the lettering wasn't in the confines of the baseball. I'll try again and see if I can do it again. Rebecca

Did you use Object/Group? SCAL doesn't interpret that right and misplaces things. Either use Path/Combine, or just leave them free.

Heather, couldn't do in Inkscape. The lettering move away from the ball. However, I did it in scal, but still would like to know what I did wrong in inkscape. I followed your instructions word by word. I even combined and didn't combine and both methods gave me the same results. Rebecca

No, I didn't use object/ group. I used Path/ Combine. Rebecca

Heather, is this your file? If so, when you cut for decal, did you just cut the baseball only and not a base? Rebecca

It is my file, but I didn't cut the decal. If you are doing the decal, you will want just the baseball. You can either delete the base, or move it off your virtual mat.

Heather and I have been pm-ing each other and at her suggestion this is what I did to correct this issue. I imported the file, ungrouped/broke apart, added my lettering, did object to path with the lettering, selected all and went to path/combine. Thanks so much for helping me , Heather. Rebecca
