Can anyonehelp me with this problem please?

Post by Yvonne Castino »

I am trying to joine you clever ladies and cut my designs with SCAL and want to use my hand drawn templates with SCAL. They were orignally in bitmap files.

I have learned how to trace an image with inkscape and so have changed my bitmap files into SGV files.

I can also import these SGV files into SCAL and get them up on the screen to edit and cut -BUT
My original single line drawings are all showing as double lines and so SCAL - always obedient is cutting them twice - one inside the other.

Can anyone tell me - in layman's terms how to deal with this?

I would be so grateful.

I usually use Path>kBreak Apart to eliminate the double lines. It would probably be easier to work in the View>Outline mode so you will know which lines to delete. Using a keyboard, you can switch between the outline and normal view mode using the key combinations on CTRL+5 (on the keypad only).

Here is a link that really helped me in get single lines in inkscape. When you ungroup you image with this lesson, you usually end up with a least one image that is really good. If you end up with am image that is grey or another color, change it to black and it cuts great. I also found that if there is garbage around the image that you want, you can clean the image up in paint first by erasing the extra stuff. Then import the file into inkscape.

One way to avoid the double line problem is to use the paint bucket tool to trace the inside or outside of the rectangles the lines make instead of autotracing the lines themselves. Here is a video to get you started:
