Hi all,
I am new to the sure cuts a lot...I haven't actually down loaded it but want to and thought I would ask you all a question or two before I do. I have purchased to CDS but haven't installed it yet for two reasons. #1...I haven't had time to play and learn but love what I see that you can do and #2...I am planning on getting a new laptop in about 1 1/2 months and want to put it on that. Now here is my thought...I do have both bugs and maybe I will go ahead and install the software and use it on my little bug first to learn. (I know just enough to be dangerous) Can I buy and install the SCA to my computer if I haven't installed the CDS and if I know that I won't be able to play for 3-4 weeks. Just didn't know if it would matter...It may be better to wait and do it all at once so I can do things as I go and not "forget"...what do you think? I was just so excited to see what all you can do and want to download it now but don't have time to do anything until I get my next project (for work) done! Darn!! Wish I could make time stand still! Ya'll are so inspiring! TIA Pam
You sure could buy and install SCA... (you couldn't cut with your cricut until you've updated the firmware) The only thing one has to do with the other is you need the CDS to update your firmware on your cricut. For your baby bug it needs to be 1.1 and the E the firmware needed for SCA is 2.0. You could download the SCA and play with that until you actually load CDS OR you could download the trial version of CDS and update your firmware, and then use SCA!
After you've used the CDS to update your firmware the two programs do NOT work together at all...
You can install both softwares on your compter. You will have to upgrade the firmware on the Cricut using DSS before you can use SCAL. You don't have to register DSS until you are sure which computer you are going to put it on...that will not stop you from upgrading firmware. SCAL can be used on more than one computer...DSS can to but you can only use the trial version (which allows you to design with all the carts but only cut with the original cart for Cricut) on computers other than the registered one.
Do not use the Update on the Cricut website. Use the version on the disc and upgrade firmware from that.
Doin the Bug...ain't nothin wrong if you wanna do da Bug all nite long...

It seems the firmware updates according to the version of software you have on your computer. I updated my software and started getting slashes across my cuts, SCAL and DSS. Todd told me to uninstall the DSS software, reinstall the original version and then do a firmware update. Haven't had the problem since. I don't plan to do any more updates to DSS because I only use SCAL now...outgrown DSS.

Thanks everyone...didn't want to buy and download if I should wait but I think I'm going to take the plunge...you all are so smart...can't wait to join in the fun of creating whatever! I have had fun all afternoon looking through hundreds of ttf and drooling as the idea wheels are spinning in my head!! Do any of you still go on the cricut message board?
You could always install the trial CDS on both bugs and play for the time being. Then when you get your new laptop, you could install your full version.
