You have Vista, right? Did you change your compatibility mode to XP?
If you use a laptop, check your power options to make sure your computer isn't turning off your USB ports.
Have you installed any other programs or hardware recently? Maybe try reinstalling the USB drivers.
Is your cell phone hooked up to your computer, or is a cell phone or scanner program running?

To enable the XP compatibility, right click on the SCAL icon on your desktop. Select the compatibility tab and check the XP box.
If you have a laptop, go to the control panel, find the Power Options, open it, mine has "power schemes". Select something like Home/Office desk or minimal power management.
