After you import or paste the image into Inkscape you need to go Path/Trace bitmap. You have several options there depending on your image. Update is a preview. When you have something you think will work, click OK.

You can use brightness cutoff with this image, and increase the threshold to 0.6

This was posted months ago and hope it still will help out.

One thing to remember in all steps you need to use the select tool ( the offset arrow in the toolbar) and select all images.

You go to file "import' the jpg.

You go to edit make bitmap (at this point you will have one image ontop of another, seperate the two and delete the bottom image)

You go to view and select display mode and at that point you chose outline, now you will have a blank box with a red x.

You go to path trace bitmap, you wlll have a pop up screen and change the thresholds to the setting you want. When I first started I used the default settings til I got use to playing with it. on this screen choose update. You will see a vague image in the box that looks like your original and see your original has changed with a big red x. Close the popup, move the red x off to the side and delete the X

Then you go to path again and chose break apart, you should have shadow and different sections to seperate.

Now all this is general instructions. There are after you practice awhile other instructions on cleaning up your nodes and color picking. After you practice awhile let me know and I'll help you further. It is really really easy and you might not have to have my help. If I can figure it out I'm sure you and others can too.

If anyone else having this issue my husband made a video tutorial that is your type of learning style. It's in High Def so hopefully you will be able to see it.

Scrappy,
Kudos to your DH on a nice and badly needed video. I have added it to the Master list of Cricut video tutorials. (see my blog for details). Please keep us posted if he does more videos. BTW, what screencast software is that?

Thank you very much. I will keep you all posted on more videos...

Well the program is called Screen Flow, bad news is (If you're not MAC user it's bad) it's a MAC only program. Think it retails for $99. It can be purchased on the apple.com under the apps.

There is another one for the MAC he tells me that is less expensive is called ISHOWU also in the APP store on apple.com. He thinks it's around $20.

Thpught I recognized Screen Flow. I have researched all the screen programs for the Mac. We are shortchanged vs. PC-ers on the free stuff. I use Jing, which is free, but can't be uploaded to Youtube. Have found several sites that will host the Jing vids, though. Can't justify spending money on this since it's not a business of anything. I can see that Screen Flow produces a very professional result as advertised though!
