As an homage to Raewyn, I took inspiration (stole) from her idea. I made my first wordbook for my daughter and son in law.
I tried using real chipboard using my new deep cut blade, but was unsuccessful. So, I used cereal boxes.
My next wordbook is already in the works. I'm using the Melon font spelling SUMMER. The front of the wordbook will look like a quarter watermelon.
Thank you for all your ideas.
Jo

Re: My First WordBook
Very cute!! I have plans to work on my first word book tonight. I have to make a quick run to AC Moore to get some more sparkly paper..
You did a great job!

No "stealing" at all.
I am thrilled that something I have done has helped or inspired someone else's creativity.
Well done and I am sure the bug has bitten you as it has me.

I have the artwork designed for a Wordbook. I will be doing the cutting and a friend of mine will be filling it. When cutting the chipboard, do you glue the paper on top before you cut or after? It seems to me that you would do it before. Also, what is the best glue to use for something like this?

Re: My First WordBook
I wouldn't thing gluing it before would be the best idea simply because you wouldn't want the glue residue even if dry to get on your blade...
I have never cut chipboard before because I can't find any in the sizes I would need...
What I was thinking of using was Mod Podge because maybe that would give it a little more structure as well...
I am interested in some other thoughts as well.

Has anyone used posterboard? I found a package of 8 sheets of 12"x18" for less than $3 today. It isn't extremely stiff but it might work when combined into a word book- Anyone know?

I was thinking this too but then i held the edges of several sheets together and it still seemed too "droopy" to me... I would hate to put together a word book and have it be floppy.. But I guess you could always make a back cover for it out of something thicker..

I use cerial box. Anything about that weight works great. I glue the cardstock on afterwards. When you add in the weight of the cerial box and the cardstock on either side it is a nice thickness. I put it on Multi Cut 2 and full pressure and 5 for the blade. Works great! Hope this helps!

I bought some thicker poster board and am going to try that. There are the $.29 sheets and the $.89 sheets, I'm going to cut it down to 12"x12" and hope for the best.

Would love to know how the posterboard works for you... ex: the settings you use when you cut it! I am using my cerial boxes up faster than I can eat the cerial. I need a new source!!
