Way beyond SCAL

Post by lilgreykitty »

I don't want to make anybody mad, but I have to say, when I first hooked up to this message board it was so I could learn more about SCAL and how to use it. Now it seems everyone is going off into another direction with Inkscape...talking about weird files and importing and path things and such. I look at this board, and I have no idea what anybody is talking about anymore. I looked at the tutorials, and it is still way over my head. Please Todd if you read this board, don't stop developing SCAL such as adding the ability to weld and make shadows etc. just because everyone is using Inkscape. Some of us aren't computer wizards, or graphic designers, and having the ability to do those things with SCAL will be just fine. :)

I agree... I am glad that we've got Inkscape to use in the meantime, but the ultimate goal is to get the features we use in Inkscape in SCA.

Unfortunately one of the things that most of us want to do with our Cricut is be able to weld our titles and create mats/shadows for them. Although SCA gives us the ability to cut our TTF it doesn't give us the ability to weld, etc. I'm glad that we've got Inkscape, a free software, in the interim to use.

I'm not sure what tutorials you're referring to - there's some in the Inkscape software and then there are some posted in this forum. I know that the ladies here are willing to help in whatever way they can to make things less complicated for you. Just ask questions.

I'm sure that Todd is paying attention to what's going on here and I am confident we will eventually have the features we all want in SCA.

Hope you stay with us in the forum...

Until such time as SCAL has the features people are asking for, and as it is advertised as being able to import .svg files those of us who know Inkscape as a program and how it can help users get the most from SCAL and their Cricut are doing our best to help out; so we are not getting away from SCAL - far from it we are passing on what we've learnt and teaching others how to get the best from this new program.
If you don't use other programs SCAL can cut fonts and dingbats - which is fantastic, but for some users it's not enough.
We've inundated Todd with requests for extra features - like all crafters we are never satisfied with what we've got! but going from a program that reads fonts and dingbats and imports .svg files ( just another file format) to more or less a full blown stand alone graphics program is a huge and demanding task. So in the meantime one can use Inkscape.
It's not difficult honestly and the tutorials and the help from other users are here - you don't have to learn everything - maybe just how to weld your letters to make your own titles: believe me there is nothing so satisfying as to be able to do things how and when you want in your own style!
This is what happened with Craft ROBO and Wishblade before the proprietary software became available.
So give it a go - don't give up now!
