font choices

Post by Evelyn »

I have a mac. I have 151 fonts in this file: Hard Drive, Library, Fonts.
This is the one that Inkscape uses to give me my font choices.

I have 579 fonts and dingbats in this file: Hard Drive, Users, Evelyn, Library, Fonts.
That is the one that I'd LIKE Inkscape to access to all my fonts and dingbats.

Does anyone know how I can re-direct Inkscape to this file? Thank you.

Usually if you open the font, then open inkscape, it will be there.

Thanks. I tried what you suggested, but when I opened a font, it just opened in Font Book and still was not visible in Inkscape. I used Help on my Mac and found out that the stuff in Library is available to all users of my computer, and the stuff under "users" is only available to me. So I tried to copy ONE font to the folder in the library and it did show up in Inkscape. I guess that means that for now, I should choose the font/dingbat I want before opening Inkscape and copy it into the Library Font folder. That would be a roundabout way of solving the problem.

However, I'd still like to find a permanent solution to having ALL my fonts available in Inkscape without having to copy them into the Library Font folder.

Does anyone know how to re-direct where Inkscape goes to find the fonts?? Or is there someone you know who I could contact to find out the information?
I'd like it to use the font folder under my User account.

Thanks, everybody. Evelyn

Evelyn,
This is apparently a known bug in Inkscape. I finally just gave up and installed them in the main fonts folder.
What you can do for the future is go to FontBook, open preferences and select Computer as the default install location (instead of user). Now when you load new fonts they will automatically go to the right folder for Inkscape to see them.

Thanks, Kay. I guess I'll do that, too.
