Don't know about the first question on Native American art but the second on the pdf is:

I think you need to open, not import pdf files, that's what I do. Sometimes if the files are very large it takes a minute or so to load. Then I get rid of the parts I don't want (usually writing on the file) and select the parts I do and save if it looks good. Martha Stewarts site did have several boxes that were pdf and one real cute one that had a rabbit for the closier but dont know how legal that one woul be to convert to svg ;)

The pdf files I have opened in Inkscape, I just click with the selection tool to see if it is all broken apart in sections and then if is looks good I draw a square around just the words and then delete them or anything else I don't want. I'm not the best teacher out there so if I'm not explaining things very well let me know, I can do screen shots to let you see what I mean.
Grammy

I tried to find one of the pdf's that has wording or instructions with them and found that some of them come across without being ready to break apart so I'll need to study this. Martha Stewarts worked fine for me but I have some pdf's that were from old patents, really neat ones so I'll have to do it the long way on those. So for now not all will be able just to open and break apart. Sorry for leading you down the path the wrong directions.

Ok I figured out why I think they didn't come across broken and ready to use. The ones I tried first was from very old pdf files on long ago patents. They were multi pages long some as many as 13 pages and It is very possible that kept it from already to be used. But all I have to do on those is to do it the hard way. Notice the shot A is when I selected all and B is when I am trying to delete unwanted detail such as words. Forgive me I have collected graphics for almost 20 years and I have no idea where I got this one. So go out and hunt for pdf files. There are lots out there. Grammy

Once you learn Inkscape, you could transform these to SVG files. Most vinyl decals for cars can be used in Inkscape. Just Google vinyl decals and all sorts of sites will come up.

I don't know if it can be done but could you post the pdf so I can look at it? It should just open then select and delete what you want. One other thing I found out since I posted about this last is that for some reason some pdf files wont work. Don't know what the poster ment by wont work or wont open. Anyway if you could try to let us see the original pdf?
