New User: SCAL2 stops when cutting

I am a new user, my Cricut Expression is firmware 2.31.

I think I have set up correctly, but when I try and cut it 'hangs' either just before cutting, or after cutting a tiny amount (a few cm).

Do I require a different firmware version?
