Butch, take one for the team... open SCAL and hold Alt + Spacebar and drag mouse. Does that turn on the beeping for you?

ALT + Spacebar doesnt work for me, it brings up file/menu

If I just hit space bar, I can drag no problem. I also dont have windows sounds on

You are right, Space->Alt->drag removes the sound.

I have used Xara for all vector graphic design for many years and do therefore like their shourtcut approach better:
Pressing spacebar once just changes current tool/cursor to dragging tool, pressing spacebar again restores the previous selected tool.
Nice and simple, you could propose that to the developers as well
