Heavy font projects

Hello to the group.

So on occasion, I have some heavy font sign needs. Maybe its lists of products a company sells or an escort mirror (list of name after name about 1" high each). My computer gets super slow. It's obviously processing a lot of info from these files. Is there any trick to simplifying things so that it's not going so slow when I need to make edits or even fix spacing?

I use SCAL Pro 4 with a nice new HP laptop.

Anyone have any thoughts that might help?
