SCAL2 and Cricut Expression

Ok, maybe this has been asked but I can't find anything specific. My computer (Mac) and Cricut are not communicating anymore. It looks like the firmware for my Cricut is v2.34. Apparently, it's supposed to be at v2.43. So first, I have a Mac only so I don't think I can update. Plus, I have SCAL2. So if I could figure out how to update, would I lose the ability to use SCAL2?

You should not need to update the firmware.
